This panoramic photo captures opening faceoff between the Seattle Kraken and Vancouver Canucks at Climate Pledge Arena at their inaugural home game on October 23, 2021. Seattle was awarded an NHL franchise in December, 2018 for the 2021-22 season and brings the total number of NHL teams to 32. Climate Pledge Arena, home of the Kraken, was originally part of the 1962 World’s Fair, and underwent a 1.5 billion dollar redevelopment and renovation which preserved the original exterior and roof which was declared a Seattle Landmark in 2017 and listed on the Washington Heritage Register as well as the National Register of Historic Places in 2018. The arena has a capacity of 17,150 for ice hockey.
