Beginning in 1960 when the track first opened, it hosted the longest race in NASCAR, in 1984, 40 condominiums were constructed outside Turn 1, and in 1992, it was the first superspeedway to host a night race. This panorama taken during the NASCAR Cup Series™: Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 brings to focus another historic moment, the longest and first playoff road course race in NASCAR history. To accomplish this feat, the Charlotte track was transformed from the standard 1.5-mile track into a unique 2.28-mile road course called the "Roval", incorporating 17 turns and 35-ft elevation change into the course layout.
