This panorama of the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic®, taken by Christopher Gjevre, featured its first Canadian team, as the Toronto Maple Leafs® and the Detroit Red Wings® took to the ice. The annual event, held by the National Hockey League® on or around New Year’s Day, celebrates the history and tradition of outdoor hockey. This year’s event was played at The Big House® on the University of Michigan campus and the NHL announced an attendance record of 105,491 during the third period. In the end, the Maple Leafs edged out the Red Wings in a shootout, resulting in a final score of Toronto 3, Detroit 2 on January 1, 2014. The first NHL Winter Classic was held in 2008.
