This panoramic photo, taken on February 18, 2023, captures the opening faceoff between the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes at the 2023 NHL Stadium Series at Carter-Finley Stadium at NC State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. This was the 37th outdoor game the NHL has staged since 2003 but only the first involving the Hurricanes and the first in the state of North Carolina. Game day delivered perfect weather and an electric atmosphere complete with tailgate parties, NC State mascots, cheerleaders, and marching band, plus live music. To end the perfect day, the Canes delivered a 4-1 victory to a sellout crowd of 56,961, the largest in Hurricanes history.
